600 MEETINGS AND GOING STRONG
From President Brian.
The Newcastle Speakers Club celebrates its 600th meeting on Wednesday 4th September, 2013 at 1pm.
To celebrate this event we are having a different type of meeting.
No, we will not be suddenly asking members to ad lib a speech. We will instead have a special guest speaker in The Hon. David Simmons OAM. FAICD, B.A., M.Ed (Hons).
David has had a distinguished career including a long career in Federal Parliament during which time held the portfolios of Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, Minister for the Arts, Tourism and Territories, Minister for Local Government and Minister for Family Support.
He will be speaking on “The Hawke –Keating era – a Special Time in Australian Politics” a very apt subject to revisit at this particular time in Australian political life. It should be a chance to go behind the spin that pervades politics today and from an insider find out what really happened in a very exciting time in Australia.
I am looking forward to David’s down to earth view on the politics of that time.
It is good to have David with us on this day because 600 meetings ago he was involved in the foundation of the Newcastle Speakers Club.
I anticipate that we will have amongst us on this day former members and other original members of the Speakers Club, so please turn up and show your support for the club and those that founded it.
